What advantages do VPS's have over Shared Hosting?

The primary benefits of this service are:

  1. There are no shared resources i.e ram, CPU and HDD space - as these are dedicated to whatever application that you want to run on the VPS
  2. There are fewer limitations as compared to shared hosting where some components, features and settings may be disabled but are allowable on a VPS e.g remote mysql access, unlimited email addresses, or installation of custom services or environments not available on shared hosting.
  3. Dedicated IP address for your website, emails, custom applications or services, such that you are not affected if a shared server IP is blacklisted because of spam or viruses etc
  4. Ability to run a wider range of applications as compared to shared hosting (Nodejs, Tomcat, java, and even Windows Server Operating Systems and Windows applications*)
